Quality Water Filters 4 You Archive Page

Ceramic water filters may not be as popular as some other types of water filters, but that may soon be changing. As more people become aware of the high-quality results, and low cost, of ceramic water filters, increased sales will follow.

In simple terms, ceramic water filters use ceramic materials, often in cartridge form, to filter out many types of contaminants. They are especially good at filtering out bacteria and sediment from incoming water. The reason they are so good at these tasks is because the size of the pores within ceramic water filter cartridges is much smaller than the size of most bacteria and other debris found in water. This small size keeps the contaminants from flowing through the filter.

Some of the harmful bacteria that ceramic water filters will trap include: E. coli, fecal form, Salmonella, Streptococcus, cysts such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia.

Consumers can find ceramic water filters in a variety of styles. Easy to use countertop units are very inexpensive and small in size. Units can also be found that connect to the water tap itself and under-counter units are also available. All of these units are easy to install and long-lasting.

Water filters that use ceramic cartridges do have to be cleaned periodically. Cleaning is easy and fast in most units, with many units offering cartridges that can be cleaned as many as 30-40 times before replacement is necessary.

The more advanced, and more effective ceramic water filters, use a staging system. This means that the incoming water must pass through several different stages, each one designed to perform a certain task. The first stage usually removes larger contaminants such as volatile carbon compounds (VOC’s), pesticides, insecticides, and industrial solvents.

The next several stages will remove suspended particles, chlorine, metals, and hundreds of other contaminants that may be in your water. The last stage uses the ceramic cartridge to remove any bacteria or other contaminant that may be remaining in the water.

Multi-stage ceramic water filters cost a bit more than single stage filters, but they are worth the added cost for those consumers who want the best protection when it comes to their drinking water.

For those interested in learning more about ceramic water filters, contact a reliable water filter vendor. These professionals can help you select the best filter to meet your individual needs and answer any questions you may have.

What is carbon block? This question is often asked in association with water filters. The reason it is asked is simple: for centuries people have known that carbon is an excellent media for absorbing the impurities found in water. In fact, carbon is so absorbent that one pound of it has a surface area of nearly 125 acres. It can absorb thousands of various chemicals and minerals found in water, and it is inexpensive.

When people ask, what is carbon block, they are usually searching for affordable ways to clean their drinking water. When they discover how powerful a carbon block water filter is, they usually stop searching.

A carbon block water filter normally contains activated carbon. This is carbon that has had a small electro-positive charge added to it. This charge makes the carbon more attractive to chemicals and other impurities found in water. It works in a simple manner. When the water passes through and over the positively charged surface, the negative ions found in the contaminants are pulled to the surface of the block carbon where they are trapped and later removed.

Home water filters can use either granular activated carbon (GAC) or powdered block carbon. Both of these are very effective at removing contaminants, but carbon block filters have a higher contaminant removal ratio.

It is important to keep in mind that the two most important factors concerning activated carbon filtration units are the amount of carbon that is contained within the unit, and the amount of time the water contaminant stays in contact with the carbon block.

As you might imagine, the larger the carbon block, the more efficient it will be in removing contaminants. Also, the longer the water remains in contact with the carbon block, the more contaminate that will be removed. For granular carbon water filters, the larger the particles, the better.

For consumers interested in activated carbon block filters, keep in mind they are normally rated by the size of the particles that they can remove from the water. This is measured in microns and it will normally range from 50 microns (which is the least effective), down to 0.5 microns (which is the most effective) at removing contaminants from water.

As is the case with all high-quality water filters, carbon block water filters require periodic changing of the filter media. The interval between media changes will depend on the size of the filter media itself as well as the condition of the incoming water.

So, what is carbon block? When it comes to water filters it is one of the most effective ways to filter water either as a primary filter or as a pre-filtering system for whole-house systems. While inexpensive and easy to use, they do, however, require some maintenance, most of which is ensuring the filter media is changed according to schedule.

If you would like to know more about carbon block water filters, contact a reliable water filter vendor who will be able to share important information concerning the best solution for your individual needs.

Is arsenic removal important for safe drinking water? Believe it or not, arsenic can be found in some drinking water sources. It enters the water source via runoff from industry or through natural deposits found in the earth itself. We all know it is a poison if enough of it is ingested, but the amounts found in water are normally far less than that needed to cause death or even serious illness. Still, no one wants arsenic in their drinking water!

However, even at small amounts arsenic can cause some health problems. These include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, thickening and discoloration of the skin, intense stomach pain, numbness in the feet or hands, partial paralysis, and, in some cases, blindness. It has also been linked to various types of cancers in the bladder, kidney, prostate, lungs, liver, skin, and nasal passages. For this reason, the EPA has set a maximum standard for arsenic in drinking water at .010 parts per million. This level only applies to drinking water that comes from public water systems. Arsenic removal for water with higher levels is therefore mandatory.

While some water sources get arsenic from natural processes, most of the arsenic found in water comes from agricultural and industrial processes. Arsenic can enter the water source if the source is close to virtually any type of lumber yard or wood processing factory. The arsenic seeps out of the treated wood and can “runoff” into the water source, thus contaminating it.

Arsenic is also found in many types of drugs, dyes, paints, as well as in electronic parts and semi-conductors. There are also many kinds of fertilizers that contain very high levels of arsenic. Any of the above can contaminate surface water sources as well as ground water sources.

Arsenic removal becomes more important depending on where you live. Research has already shown that some western states within US have public water systems with an arsenic level above .010 parts per million. This high level of arsenic can also be found in some New England states as well a few Midwest states.

The EPA requires public water systems to test for arsenic. This test is done on a routine basis and the results reported back to the EPA. Water systems that find high levels of arsenic must tell their customers within thirty days and they must also take measures to correct the problem immediately. Because the notification process is so lengthy, as we said they have thirty days to contact you, some consumers prefer to use water filters to remove arsenic at the home tap.

There are several high-quality water filters currently available for in-home use that are very effective at arsenic removal. These water filters allow you to remove the arsenic from the water at the tap, before you ingest it. Water filters are available as whole house units or available as smaller point-of-use devices. Both are effective at removing arsenic as well as a variety of other contaminants.

For those who may reside in an area where arsenic may be present in the drinking water, the use of an effective arsenic water filter is crucial to protecting your health. You can contact a reliable water filter vendor to discuss your options for providing cleaner and safer drinking water to your home. Most arsenic removal water filters are very affordable.

Isn’t it nice to come home from a hard day’s work and just relax in a nice hot tub of water? It might not be so relaxing if you have chlorine in your bath water and you have to breathe in all those chlorine fumes and soak in chlorine that dries out your skin and hair.

I know I would not enjoy taking a bath if I had to deal with dry skin and hair every time I got out of the bath.  Well now you can enjoy taking a bath without all the side effects of the chlorine with a bath filter. Crystal Quest, Rainshow’r and Sprite have come out with a bath filters to take care of the chlorine problem.

Here is a brief explanation of both brands of bath filters:

Crystal Quest Bath Filters

Crystal Quest bath filters use a media called ERA-6500 and ERA-9500 that reduces chlorine and heavy metals. They also employ coconut shell carbon to reduce chemical compounds like pesticides, herbicides, insecticides and many more.

Crystal Quest bath filters will provide you with a chlorine free bath for 12 to 18 months depending how many baths you take. The only problem that I have with the Crystal Quest bath filter is that you have to have the old style faucet that has the pull up knob on it to hang the bath filter on.

We have had customers that have rigged things up to hold the bath filter on the faucet like elastic bands, Velcro and such, so you might want to keep this in mind if you purchase the Crystal Quest bath filters. But other than that they are great bath filters.

Sprite Bath Filters

Sprite bath filters use a media called Chlorgon that is exclusive to Sprite products to reduce chlorine from your bath water. It also has minerals balls in it to enhance you baths PH and reduce hardness and scale on the side of your tub.

The Sprite bath filters will provide you with about 50 chlorine free baths. Unlike the Crystal Quest bath filter the Sprite bath filter has a universal harness with Velcro straps that hook onto you faucet so it can be used on any faucet even if it don’t have the pull up knob.

Rainshow’r Bath Filters

Rainshow’r bath filters use KDF to remove chlorine from your bath water. They also employ quartz crystals to energize your bath water by reducing the water surface tension which allows for better sudsing and lathering of soaps.

With the Rainshow’r bath filters you just fill your bath tub up and hold the string on the bath filter and run it through the water for a few minutes to eliminate the chlorine. It will filter for 200 baths.

All in all they all are great bath filters for removing chlorine from you bath water.

We have been asked a lot lately what the difference from the standard and advanced water filter bottles are, so we are going to give a brief explanation.

Seychelle standard water filter bottles will reduce 99.99% of bacteria and viruses and a wide range of other contaminants such as chlorine, Sediment and dirt; Biologicals like Giardia, Cryptosporidium, E-Coli Bacteria; Chemicals (VOC'S) , MTBE, Benzene, Chloroforms (THM'S); and Dissolved Solids (Heavy metals) such as Arsenic, Lead, Mercury, Copper, Zinc, Aluminum and Chromium 6. . They use a BIOSAFE media that is EPA, FDA and NSF approved and is non toxic and non leaching.

The Advanced water filter bottles have the same filtering media as the standard water filter bottles with the addition of a EPA iodinated  resin that has a been proven to remove up to six logs (99.9999%) of bacteria and viruses.

The seychelle water filter bottles are a great portable water filter for everyday use. We use them when we go places that have chlorinated water so we can filter our own water instead of buying expensive bottled water.

I also go kayaking a lot in the summer and they work great for that also, as you don’t have to carry a big jug of water with you, all you need is your Seychelle water filter bottle, just fill it up with the river water and you have clean bacteria free water.

I don’t go camping much but I do have family and friends that do and they usually camp by a river or lake and they also use the seychelle water filter bottles and drinking water straws they can go down to the lake or river and know they are drinking clean water with their water filter bottles.

So whether you use them for camping, biking, hiking, kayaking or everyday use they are a great filter to have on hand and will save you $ from buying bottled water and also help keep our environment clean by keeping all those water bottles out of the landfills. Or maybe you just would like to have a few around just in case an emergency comes along.

First off we need to get the idea of a shower filter removing fluoride from your shower out of the way, they will not remove fluoride they might reduce very little and for a very short time. Fluoride is hard to remove from water; you need a special fluoride removing media to reduce fluoride in your water. A shower filter is just too small of a filter to accommodate enough media, and the flow of water coming out of your shower is just too fast meaning that your water will not have enough contact time with the media.

So these venders telling you that their shower filters will remove fluoride from your shower with a fluoride shower filter is just false. With people getting more aware of how bad fluoride is for you, there are companies and vendors taking advantage of you the consumer and trying to make a quick buck off of you. We believe this is WRONG we will not and have never told a customer that a filter will do something that it won’t. Now don’t get me wrong maybe the seller really believes that the shower filters they sell will remove fluoride, but they should do a little more research.

Sprite Shower Filters:

Sprite shower filters are great shower filters they offer a wide range of models from hand-held shower filters to standard shower filters you can also get one that is a shower filter and a shower head all-in-one. Sprite uses KDF media that most all shower filters use as it reduces chlorine in a wide range of temperatures. They also us a media called Chlorgon that is exclusive to Sprite shower filters that removes chlorine.

What does a Sprite shower filter reduce from my shower water?

Chlorine:  99% when new as it reaches its capacity limit this amount is reduced to around 75%

Dirt and sediment:  Reverse filter cartridge to flush out cartridge of sediment and also helps prevent channeling.

Scale: It will reduce some scale but don’t expect it to remove it all.

Iron Oxide

And of course odors. Sprite shower filters are also PH balanced.

We have sold lots of Sprite shower filters in the last 4 years and have had very few get returned. They are built very well and they do what they are supposed to do. Our top selling Sprite shower filters are the High out-put shower filters and the original hand-held shower filters.

Sprite shower filters will filter your water for anywhere from 3 months to 1 year, depending what model you purchase. Most all of Sprite shower filters are also NFS/ANSI certified. There is a one year warranty on all sprite shower filters. All in all Sprite shower filters are high quality and get the job done.

Rainshow’r Shower Filters:

Rainshowe’r is another high quality shower filter they are made in the good old USA. This is another shower filter we sell a lot of and our customers are happy with.  Rainshow’r use KDF and Crystal Quartz in their shower filters. The KDF reduces the chlorine by 90% or more and the Crystal Quartz gives the water a energy enhanced feel and much better lathering of soaps.Rainshowe'r shower filters are also PH balanced

The Rainshow’r shower filters will filter for 6 to 9 months. You can get them without a shower head so you can use your own. Or you can get them with a designer or massage shower head. Rainshow’r shower filters are NSF/ANSI certified.

Crystal Quest Shower Filters:

Crystal Quest shower filters are also a good quality shower filter; again we have sold lots of them. We have had problems with their hand-held shower filters they just aren’t as good of quality as the Sprite Hand-held shower filters. The hoses seem to blow out a lot and the switch on them to switch from massage to regular spray seems to have problems with them also.

But their regular shower filters are great, we have had a few of the screens blow out of the filter cartridge in the shower filter but only a few, if this does happen Crystal Quest is great about sending you a new cartridge. But if you purchase from us Quality Water Filters 4 You we prefer you to contact us if you have any problems as we like to take care of our own customers.

Crystal Quest uses KDF and Carbon in their shower filters. Again the KDF will reduce 95% or more of chlorine and some heavy metals. The carbon will reduce chemical compounds like herbicides, pesticides, insecticides and things like that now I do not believe it will reduce a big percentage of the chemical compounds as carbon is a great media for drinking filter systems as you hook them up to your cold water line. Carbon does not work well in hot water like your shower environment, but like I said I am sure it reduces some but for how long and how much I don’t. But even at that the Crystal Quest shower filters are still good shower filters as they do have the KDF in them to reduce the chlorine as I pointed out earlier that is really what a shower filter is for anyways. Crystal Quest shower filters are also PH balanced

So there is my view on the Sprite, Rainshow’r and Crystal Quest shower filters. Just remember they are a small filter and are meant to reduce chlorine from your shower filter. So be leery of claims of shower filters that will remove fluoride and everything else that might be in your water.

This is just a few of the shower filter brands we offer. We also offer Pelican and Austin Springs shower filters. You can find all the shower filters we offer on our shower filters page
